Hanoi (VNA) – The Venezuela – Vietnam Friendship Association (CAVV), in coordination with the Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela, held a flower-offering ceremony in tribute to late President Ho Chi Minh on Bolívar Avenue in Caracas on December 18.

It was part of activities to mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Venezuela (December 18, 1989 -2024), the 80th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - 2024), and the 35th All-People National Defence Festival (December 22, 1989 - 2024).

In his speech at the ceremony, CAVV President Dr. Carolus Wimmer emphasised the long-standing traditional friendship between Venezuela and Vietnam, rooted in shared histories of the past struggles for national independence and a love for peace, freedom, and justice. This bonds are clearly reflected in the thoughts of two great leaders - Liberator Simón Bolívar and President Ho Chi Minh.

Wimmer shared his deep admiration for President Ho Chi Minh and the Vietnamese people's resilient and heroic struggle against colonials and imperialists for national independence. He noted that President Ho Chi Minh's thought has been the lodestar for Vietnam's victories, especially its significant achievements during the 'Doi moi' (renewal) process, for the goal of rich people, a strong nation, and democracy, equality, and civilisation.

Speaking on the 80th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army, Wimmer highlighted that President Ho Chi Minh was not only an exceptional leader but also a military strategist of genius. He directly founded and trained the Vietnam People's Army, a force renowned for its undefeated record and remarkable victories that “resounded across the five continents and shook the world.”

Looking ahead to 2025, Dr. Wimmer stated that Vietnam will celebrate numerous significant events, including the 95th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 - 2025), the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and national reunification (April 30, 1975 - 2025) and the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2025). The CAVV, in collaboration with the Vietnamese Embassy and relevant Venezuelan agencies, plans to organise commemorative activities to raise awareness among the Venezuelan people, especially the youth, about the glorious revolutionary history of Vietnam, the legacy of President Ho Chi Minh, and the strong bonds of friendship between Venezuela and Vietnam, he stated.

For his part, Ambassador Vu Trung My expressed his gratitude for the solidarity and affection shown by Venezuelan leaders, people, and the CAVV towards Vietnam. He emphasised that the Vietnamese Party and State consistently treasure the legacy of friendship established by late President Hugo Chávez and successive Vietnamese leaders. He also expressed his hope to deepen the traditional friendship and foster a robust partnership that leverages each country's strengths, contributing to the development of both nations./.
