Vietnam and India should speed up ties in economics to further promote their strategic partnership, said Vuong Dinh Hue, head of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission.

Hue suggested the idea during his June 9 reception for Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Preeti Saran in Hanoi, during which they proposed measures to bolster all-round relations between the two countries.

Saran emphasised the necessity for both sides to enhance cooperation in the areas of garment and textile, oil and gas exploration and exploitation, agriculture and cultural exchange.

She also put forth her idea that a direct air route should soon be opened between the two countries to facilitate tourism activities and investment and trade promotion in the coming time.

Meanwhile, the host affirmed that his agency will work closely with relevant ministries and sectors to boost Vietnam-India economic cooperation in the future.

Hue and Saran shared their views on regional and international issues of common concern, including those on ensuring peace, stability, security and maritime safety in the East Sea and solving disputes through peaceful measures in line with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the Declaration on the Conducts of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), towards building a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

They noted that there is need for sustainable economic development in the region and the world.-VNA
