Vietnam, India boost defence ties

Indian Defence Minister A.K. Antony began his official visit to Vietnam on October 13 as guest of Defence Minister Phung Quang Thanh after attending the first ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting – Plus (ADMM+).

During talks at the Defence Ministry’s headquarters, the ministers agreed to rapidly implement the contents of the memorandum of understanding on defence cooperation signed previously for the sake of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.

They talked about issues of mutual concern to further strengthen cooperation and friendship between the two countries and their armies.

General Thanh lauded contributions by the senior Indian officers to the success of the freshly-ended inaugural ADMM+.

He said he believed the visit would help promote mutual understanding and continue boosting fine friendship between armies and people of the two countries.

For his part, the Indian minister congratulated the Vietnamese Defence Ministry on its successful organisation of the first ADMM+./.
