Tokyo (VNA) – Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung had working sessions with leaders of Japanese ministries, sectors, and groups, and Vietnamese enterprises to discuss measures to boost Vietnam-Japan cooperation in the field of information and communications technology (ICT), within the framework of his visit to the East Asian nation from August 4-6.
While there, Hung held separate bilateral talks with Taro Kono, Minister for Digital Transformation at the Digital Agency; and Nishiguchi Akihito, Japan Post’s Executive Vice President. He also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in ICT and postal services with the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan Matsumoto Takeaki.
In his meeting with State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Kozuki Ryosuke, the Vietnamese official briefed the host on Vietnam’s building of major policies and strategies concerning the ICT and semiconductor industries, with a focus on accelerating training and development of human resources in the semiconductor sector.
Meanwhile, Kozuki Ryosuki shared Japan's experience in developing these industries, highlighting that the semiconductor industry is considered as crucial as the automotive industry. Japan is focusing on mobilising resources and supporting businesses in advancing key technologies such as semiconductor and AI. However, the country is also facing challenges, particularly in ensuring a sufficient supply of workforce, he added.
Regarding the digital infrastructure development, both sides discussed and agreed to enhance collaboration in developing the 5G open radio access network (Open RAN), support their businesses in promptly launching joint projects on product research and development to serve both domestic and global markets.
On this occasion, Minister Hung also had meetings with NTT Docomo and Rakuten, the largest and fourth-largest mobile network operators in Japan, respectively.
They exchanged experiences in applying the 5G technology based on the Open RAN standard./.
