A meeting on labour relationship, focusing on labour unions’ initiatives to enhance their activities, was held in Hanoi on March 2.

The meeting, part of pilot programmes on reforming the organisation of grassroot-level trade unions and strengthening the relationship between labour unions and workers, was jointly held by Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

In his opening speech, VGCL Deputy Chairman Nguyen Van Ngang said the pilot programmes, launched in November 2010, will serve as important reference models for VGCL’s reforms in order to build harmonious working relationships in enterprises.

Director of ILO office in Vietnam Gyorgy said the meeting marked Vietnam ’s efforts in building harmonious labour relation during the transitional process towards the socialist-oriented market economy.

The ILO pledged to further assist VGCL in developing new methods to improve its role in workplace relationships.

Delegates at the meeting discussed measures to improve ways to gather members, set up labour unions and improve the quality of collective work contracts.

They also shared experiences and recommendations from lessons learned during the implementation of the pilot programme.-VNA
