New York (VNA) – Vietnam highly values Laos’s comprehensive approach to sustainable development through the grouping of the implementation of UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into six pillars to speed up the process and create a more sustainable development path, stated Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN.

The ambassador made the statement after listening to Laos’s voluntary national review (VNR) on SDG implementation presented by Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith in New York on July 16 within the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF).

In the VNR, Laos highlighted efforts, achievements and difficulties of the country in the realisation of SDGs, and the Southeast Asian nation’s hope for continued support from the international community in the work.

Ambassador Giang congratulated Laos on the attainments that the country has gained over the years, especially amid many difficulties and challenges.

The Vietnamese representative said he hopes Laos will share its experience with other countries in ensuring the connections between the implementation of national development priorities and the realisation of the SDGs, as well as graduating from the Least Developed Country Category scheduled for 2026./.
