Cambodia has recorded remarkable achievements in ensuring human rightsfor the people in the past years, said Vu Anh Quang, Deputy Head of theVietnamese Permanent Mission to the United Nations, the World TradeOrganisation and other international organisations in Geneva .
Quang made the praise after hearing reports on developments on humanrights in Cambodia presented by UN Special Repporteur Surya PrasadSubedi and Cambodian Ambassador Su Suon, Head of the Cambodian Missionto the UN and other international organisations in Geneva , at the18th session of the UN Human Rights Council on Sept. 28.
The results were gained in economic, cultural, social and politicalfields, particularly in raising the people’s living standards, achievingthe UN’s Millennium Development Goals, improving the legislative systemand the fight against corruption, Quang said.
Vietnam applauds Cambodia ’s commitments and its serious attitudeat the Universal Periodic Review as well as the country’s good will indialogue and cooperation with other UN human rights establishments,especially with the Special Rapporteur.
As Cambodia’s neighbouring country, Vietnam is pleased with a Cambodia ofpeace, stability and fast economic development in the context of theworld upheavals in the past year, Quang said.
The 18 th session of the UN Human Rights Council takes place from Sept. 12-30./.
