Vietnam promotes French language training

The Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV) on Nov. 2 opened the annual meeting of the Network of Francophone Forums in Hanoi, with 40 delegates from the International Francophone Organisation (OIF) and other Francophone organisations taking part.

Addressingthe opening ceremony, Nguyen Dinh Thao, DAV Deputy Director said DAV hasalways valued French language teaching and French-speaking activities.The academy has trained hundreds of officials for ministries anddepartments using French language; and developed cooperation in manyfields with OIF members.

Thao also highlighted theoutcomes of cooperation within the framework of the Network ofFrancophone Forums, including the establishment of the Hanoi FrancophoneForum in 2005, the hosting of the sixth meeting of the Francophoneforum in 2007 and the implementation of master course in French languageand globalisation.

So far, 28 students fromministries, departments and State organisations have graduated,including one from China and five from Laos.

Inaddition to proposing an orientation for cooperation in the near future,delegates also discussed the teaching of French language atuniversities, a masters programme in political science and internationalrelations for the 2010 – 2011 academic year, research on “Frenchlanguage, globalisation and international relations”, and introduced aproject to publish a French thesaurus.

As part ofthe three-day event, DAV also coordinated with OIF to host aninternational seminar discussing French language training for diplomatsin Asia and other regions./.
