At a meetingwith local leaders, Tung stressed that his visit takes place in the context thatVietnam and Cuba are organising a range of activities marking milestones in theirrelations.
Fifty years ago, Fidel made his first visit to Vietnamfrom September 12-17, 1973. He was the first and only foreign leader to visitthe southern liberation area of Vietnam when the war was ongoing.
This year also marks the 60th foundinganniversary of the Cuban Committee for Solidarity with South Vietnam, he said.
The host leaders expressed their wish to learn moreabout Vietnam’s socio-economic development model, and that more and more Vietnamesebusinesses will operate there.
Tung also paid tributeto Cuban heroes and martyrs at the Mausoleum for the Heroes and Martyrs of theSecond Eastern Front Frank País García, and visited the Vietnam-Cuba friendshipschool, and the July 26 Museum, the former Moncada Barracks./.
