Hanoi (VNA) – NationalAssembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan has emphasised the responsibilities of parliamentsof Eurasian countries in urging regional governments to set up economic linksand promote multilateral trade, contributing to growth in each country andregion, said Nguyen Van Giau, Chairman of the NA’s Committee for ExternalRelations.
Giau told the press following the top legislator’s trip to attend the third Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries'Parliaments (MSEAP 3) and her official visit to Turkey from October 7-12that in her speech delivered at the meeting, Ngan also called for joint effortsagainst climate change and appealed to developed countries to help developingones enhance their self-defence capacity against adverse impacts of climatechange.
Of note, the Vietnamesedelegation participated in drafting the joint statement of the meeting, theofficial said, adding that Vietnam’s contributions to the document werestrongly recognised and supported by the member countries.
Particularly, she proposedthat that all disputes, including the East Sea issue, should be handled bypeaceful measures and in line with international law.
Within the framework of MSEAP3, Ngan met with Chairman of the State Duma ofRussia Vyacheslav Volodin, Speaker of the Republic of Korea’s National AssemblyMoon Hee-sang, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the NationalAssembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko, and Chairman of the Mazhilis(lower house) of the parliament of Kazakhstan Nurlan Z. Nigmatulin.
Giau said through thebilateral meetings, foreign legislative leaders expressed their wish to fosterrelations with Vietnam, and they raised many new proposals for the cooperation.
Regarding Ngan’s officialvisit to Turkey, the official said Turkish leaders highly appreciated andconsidered Vietnam an important partner of Turkey in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Turkish side described Ngan’svisit as a hallmark as this is the highest-level visit by a Vietnamese leaderto Turkey since the two countries established their diplomatic ties 40 years.
Speaker of the TurkishGrand National Assembly BinaliYildirim expressed his wish to lift the relations between Vietnam andTurkey to a new high and beef up the bilateral legislative ties.
He revealedthat between now and the end of the year, Turkey will send a parliamentaryfriendship group of the TurkishGrand National Assembly on a working visit toVietnam.
NAChairwoman Ngan’s trip to Turkey came to a successful end, clearly showingVietnam’s standpoint of wishing to be a sincere friend and a reliable partnerof countries around the world, while strengthening the effective cooperationbetween the Vietnamese NA and other parliaments in the region, Giau said.-VNA
