Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam is ready to assistAfghanistan in the latter’s peace building and development process, AmbassadorDang Dinh Quy, head of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, saidon March 10.

He made the remark while addressing a sessionduring which the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2513 that welcomed thepeace agreement signed between the US and the self-proclaimed Islamic Emirateof Afghanistan, known as the Taliban, on February 29 and a joint statementinked between the US and Afghanistan on February 28.
 
The resolution stressed that the peace processmust be led and controlled by Afghans. It called on all parties concerned in Afghanistanto promote negotiations towards a ceasefire and political settlement.

In this resolution, the UN Security Council alsoexpressed its readiness to consider the start of the review of the status ofdesignations of individuals and entities on the sanction list against theTaliban.

Members of the UN Security Council voiced theirhope that the parties concerned will make use of these outcomes to contributeto the long-term peace in Afghanistan and the region.

Ambassador Quy welcomed the peace deal and jointstatement, appreciating efforts by the US, Afghanistan, Qatar and the relevantsides.

Vietnam voted for Resolution 2513 with the hopethat the resolution will help promote long-term peace and stability inAfghanistan for the sake of the Afghan people, he noted./.
