Vietnam, Russia bolster human security cooperation amid COVID-19

Vietnam appreciates Russia’s success in the fight against COVID-19 and hopes to bolster cooperation in ensuring human security against the backdrop of the pandemic as well as support from the country in researching the virus and raising vaccine coverage, Minister of Public Security General To Lam said on March 16.

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam appreciates Russia’s success in the fight against COVID-19 andhopes to bolster cooperation in ensuring human security against the backdrop ofthe pandemic as well as support from the country in researching the virus andraising vaccine coverage, Minister of Public Security General To Lam said onMarch 16.

He made the remarkswhile hosting a reception for a high-ranking delegation from Russia led bySecretary of the Security Council General Nikolai Patrushev, who is visitingVietnam from March 15-17.

The visit is ofgreat significance as a continuation of activities marking the 70th foundinganniversary of Vietnam-Russia diplomatic ties (1950-2020), especially after thesuccess of the 13th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

During the talks,the two sides voiced their delight at the comprehensive strategic partnershipthriving in an effective and pragmatic manner, expressing a belief thatbilateral relations as well as cooperation in security and national defencewill be further strengthened in the time ahead.

Lam spoke highly of the visit amid thecomplex developments of COVID-19, saying it demonstrates Russia’s sentiment andtrust towards Vietnam as well as efforts by the Russian Security CouncilGeneral to promote the friendship.

The visit will deepen traditional relationsbetween the Ministry of Public Security (MoPS) and Russian law enforcementagencies and the two countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership at large,he added.

The minister also voiced his belief thatunder the leadership of President Vladimir Putin, Russia will continue to enjoystable development and affirm its prestige and position in the internationalarena, greatly contributing to tackling conflict and maintaining peace,stability, and development in regions around the world, including the Asia-Pacificand Southeast Asia.

The MoPS andRussian agencies have launched various cooperation activities in all spheresand obtained fruitful results, he added, calling on both sides to effectivelycarry out their signed agreements.

Lam and Patrushev exchanged views on globaland regional issues and those of mutual concern in a bid to coordinate inensuring cyber security, the safety of Vietnamese and Russian citizensoverseas, and Vietnam’s security industry development, among other matters.

At the end of the talks, the officials witnessedthe signing of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the MoPSand the Investigative Committee of Russia.

During its time in Vietnam, the Russiandelegation will pay courtesy calls to Party General Secretary and StatePresident Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, join a workingsession with Minister of National Defence General Ngo Xuan Lich, and attend theinauguration of a bust of great Russian poet A. S. Puskin at Hoa Binh (Peace)Park in Hanoi./.
