Hanoi (VNA) - Politburo member, President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA) and Chairman of the Central Theory Council Nguyen Xuan Thang hosted Mikhail Efimovich Fradkov, Director of the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies (RISS), in Hanoi on April 1.

During the meeting, Thang said Vietnam wishes to strengthen cooperation in leadership and management training as well as academic research policy consultation, science-technology development, innovation, and national development strategies. He also proposed discussions on the signing of bilateral cooperation agreements, increasing exchanges at all levels, and the joint organisation of an Asia-Europe strategic security and multilateral cooperation forum.

Lauding the strengthened bilateral ties, the guest, who is also former Russian Prime Minister, expressed hope that the two countries would continue to elevate their partnership on the global stage.

Thang affirmed Vietnam’s commitment to a foreign policy of independence and self-reliance with the motto that Vietnam is a friend, a reliable partner, and a responsible member of the international community. Vietnam is also proactively stepping up global integration and advancing its role in ASEAN, the United Nations, APEC, ASEM, and other multilateral frameworks, while maintaining national sovereignty and interests, as well as a peaceful and stable environment for economic development.

The RISS Director commended the Southeast Asian nation’s efforts to streamline its administrative apparatus, reduce bureaucracy, and promote sustainable development.

Both sides also discussed the prospect of Vietnam-Russia relations and Russia’s position in Vietnam’s foreign policy amid its era of national rise. Vietnam always values its comprehensive strategic partnership and traditional friendship with Russia, rooted in its historic ties with the former Soviet Union. The 75th anniversary of Vietnam-Russia diplomatic relations this year will serve as a milestone for expanding cooperation across all fields./.

16th NA reviews amendments to four tax-related laws on April 21
