Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to further strengthen its traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Hungary, its first comprehensive partner in Central and Eastern Europe, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man affirmed.
Speaking at his talks with Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly Kover Laszlo following an official welcome ceremony in Hanoi on October 20, Chairman Man underlined the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two countries. He expressed Vietnam’s deep gratitude for Hungary’s valuable support during its struggle for national independence and reunification, as well as in the country’s current process of construction and development.
For his part, Speaker Kover commended Vietnam’s outstanding achievements in socio-economic development and international integration, noting that there remains considerable potential for bilateral collaboration in economy, trade, investment, tourism, education, and training.
He affirmed that, under Hungary’s “Eastern Opening” foreign policy, Vietnam is regarded as the country’s most important partner in Southeast Asia and that Hungary wishes to deepen bilateral relations across all spheres.
Both sides highly valued the recent progress in bilateral ties, reflected in frequent high-level exchanges and growing cooperation between the two legislatures through regular meetings and contacts among leaders, committees, and friendship groups, as well as close coordination at inter-parliamentary forums, particularly the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
The two leaders agreed to enhance high-level exchanges across all channels to reinforce political trust and mutual understanding, laying a foundation for broader and more substantive cooperation. They also concurred on promoting collaboration in science and technology, education and training, natural resources and environment, healthcare, culture, and tourism.
The two sides reached consensus on the main theme of the sixth legislative seminar between their National Assemblies, expected to take place in the first half of 2026, and pledged continued coordination and mutual support at regional and international parliamentary forums to contribute to peace, cooperation, and development.
Both leaders reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, and freedom of navigation and overflight in the East Sea, and resolving disputes by peaceful means in accordance with international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
Chairman Man also suggested that the Hungarian NA and relevant authorities create favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Hungary to integrate successfully and enjoy stable lives.
Following the talks, Speaker Kover and his entourage attended the 10th sitting of the 15th NA of Vietnam./.
