Hanoi (VNA) — National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man on December 16 chaired a meeting with representatives of the NA’s agencies and the NA Office, during which he stressed that discipline, order and strict compliance must be upheld to improve the quality and effectiveness of parliamentary activities.

Commending their efforts and achievements in 2025, Chairman Man clearly outlined key tasks for the time ahead and requested the prompt finalisation and promulgation of newly adopted laws and resolutions, proactive reviews to ensure consistency with new guidelines, and thorough preparations for the upcoming elections of deputies to the 16th NA and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 tenure.

As 2026 holds special significance for the entire 16th term of the legislature, he urged all agencies to follow the Party's leadership, promptly institutionalise the Party's resolutions, directives and conclusions, and intensify supervision over implementation.

As the legislative work is “the breakthrough of breakthroughs,” with institutions paving the way for development, the top legislator called for a decisive shift from a management mindset to a development-enabling approach.

He also stressed the need to strengthen discipline and order in law-making, ensure supervision is substantive and focused, and enhance the application of information technology and artificial intelligence (AI) towards building a digital legislature.

It is also necessary to continue renewing public petitions, bettering the organisation of meetings with voters, making comprehensive preparations for the election of deputies to the 16th NA, strengthening parliamentary diplomacy, and promoting Vietnam’s role at international forums.

On this occasion, the NA Chairman presented certificates of merit of the NA Standing Committee to six collectives with outstanding performance in serving the 10th session of the 15th legislature.

The legislative work reached its largest volume since the start of the current term, with 89 laws and 24 normative resolutions adopted, alongside opinions given on six additional draft laws. These efforts focused on quickly putting into place key guidelines from the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, and the Secretariat, clearing obstacles, gathering resources, and building a strong legal base for the next phase of national development./.
