Vietnam shares experience in green agriculture at ECOSOC forum

– Ambassador Dang DinhQuy, head of Vietnam’s permanent mission to the United Nations (UN), presentedthe country’s policies to promote green agriculture at a sideline event of theHigh-level Political Forum of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) inNew York on July 11.

The event was co-organised by Thailand, Vietnam,Bhutan, the EU, UNEP and Switch Asia.

Ambassador Quy highlighted Vietnam’s achievementsin agriculture as well as challenges that the country is facing to ensuresustainable development such as low productivity and environmental impacts dueto the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

The diplomat emphasised the importance of concreteinitiatives to bring policies into life, including the application ofVietnamese Good Agricultural Practice (VietGAP) to help increase productivity,mitigate environmental impacts, and raise incomes for farmers.

Participants shared their countries’ solutionsto promoting a green economy and sustainable production and consumption modelsthat benefit people and minimise environmental impacts.

A representative from Thailand underlined therole of building policy frameworks to promote green economy and efforts torealize these policies, especially in rural areas.

Meanwhile, a delegate from Bhutan shared thecountry’s “High Value, Low Impact” tourism policy and its approach based on theGross National Happiness (GNH) index in building a prosperous country.

A representative from theEU referred to the Circular Economy that helps minimise waste in production andconsumption. 

The UNEP underlined its cooperationefforts with the private sector to boost plastic recycling solutions andgradually eliminate the use of plastic products.-VNA

Vietnamese, Lao police forces foster security cooperation

Legislature scrutinises specialised court model at int’l financial centre

Establishing a specialised court at the International Financial Center is necessary to institutionalise the Party’s policies and conclusions of the competent authorities. The court aims to provide a fast and effective mechanism for resolving disputes arising from business and investment activities at the centre.
