Rome (VNA)
– A high-ranking Vietnamese delegation has met with Italian communist parties’ officials to cement ties between the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the Italian side.

At the working sessions, which were part of the delegation’s working visit to Italy, Politburo member and NA Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong informed officials of the Italian Communist Party (PCI) and the Communist Refoundation Party (PRC) about the outcomes of the CPV’s 12th National Congress, socio-economic development and political and diplomatic achievements of Vietnam, and the CPV’s development targets and orientations.

She highly valued the cooperation between the CPV and the two Italian parties while appreciating their assistance for Vietnam in recent history. She also lauded the parties’ practical contributions to the Vietnam – Italy relationship and asked for their continued support for bilateral ties.

At the functions, the Vietnamese and Italian party officials looked into challenges and opportunities for the communist movement in the world. They agreed to enhance cooperation and exchanges to share experience in developing the parties and people’s capacity.

The Italian parties’ representatives also expressed concern over the new and complex developments in sovereignty disputes in the East Sea. They stressed that they advocate for Vietnam’s stance of peacefully settling disputes and respecting international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

At the working session on May 26, PRC General Secretary Paolo Ferrero vowed concerted efforts to reinforce connections between the two countries and the two parties.

What Vietnam has attained under the CPV’s leadership is an encouragement for the PRC to work for the sake of the Italian people, he said. He also invited the CPV to send delegates to his party’s congress slated for late 2016.

At another meeting the next day, PCI Politburo member Ugo Moro described the CPV as an inspiration for other communist parties’ movements around the globe. Vietnam’s accomplishments are lessons for the PCI to reform its operations.

He also invited CPV delegates to attend the PCI’s national congress, scheduled to take place this June.

On May 28, Politburo member and NA Vice Chairwoman Phong paid a working visit to the PCI organisation in the Veneto region based in Mestre city. CPV General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is currently an honourary member of the PCI organisation there.

The Vietnamese delegation left Italy on May 29 for a working visit to the UK.-VNA
