Vietnam targets 2020 industrial nation status

The industry and trade sector will be restructuring its organisation and operations in line with strategies to ensure national socio-economic development.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung issued Decision2146/QD-TTg this month, which approved the restructuring plan of theindustry and trade sector. This plan will target the industrialisation,modernisation and sustainable development of the sector by 2020 andtoward 2030.

The plan's general objectives are to promote achange of structure in the local economy and increase the quality of itsgrowth, productivity and competitiveness.

The scheme will alsoencourage researching ways to renovate the operational model andorganisation of the sector, as well as build a state management model toefficiently meet the energy demand. All these designs aim to contributeto the country's socio-economic development.

Meanwhile,specific targets include industrial development with reasonablestructures based on the needs of the various sectors and regions of thecountry. In addition, the schemes endeavour to further improve theindustrial production system of the region and the world to attain thegoal of becoming an industrial country by 2020.

The industry andtrade sector will develop industrial fields by efficiently mobilisingall resources from economic segments. It will focus on industrial fieldsand products, which are regarded as the foundation of agricultural andrural modernisation, as well as promote industrial fields and productswith high values and export rates. The sector will strive to connectproduction with the development of industrial services as well.

Additionally,the sector will focus on further developing the national market andfostering sustainable growth for local commerce. It will also activelyintegrate global trade into the domestic market.

Under the plan,the restructuring will serve the demands of various fields, includingindustry, energy, commerce and international economic integration.

Withrespect to the commerce field, the Ministry of Industry and Trade willcontinue implementing export market diversification.

Theministry will also consolidate and expand traditional export markets(Russia and Eastern European countries), as well as open other potentialmarkets (India and other Southern Asian, African, Middle Eastern andSouth American countries).

It will continue promoting exports tostrategic markets including the United States, Japan, China, andAustralia, as well as the EU and the ASEAN.

In addition, theministry will focus on trade promotion programmes to seek new exportmarkets for the local farming and fruit and vegetable products.

Theministry will also take advantage of the free trade agreementsproviding lower tariff rates to promote exports and will employefficient methods for future export activities.

Vietnam willcontinue the diversification of import markets, especially forproduction materials, to avoid reliance on any single market. It willalso be persistent in inspecting the quality of imported products, aswell as utilising technical barriers to limit imports.-VNA

Fuel prices cut again from 3pm on May 8

Seven localities with disbursement rates higher than the national average were Phu Tho (46.71%), Thanh Hoa (39.02%), Ha Tinh (29.43%), Nghe An (22.56%), Quang Binh (19.23%), Bac Giang (18%), and Hoa Binh (17.34%). Notably, the Ministry of Construction and Hanoi city had the absolute disbursement figures, over 11.82 trillion VND and nearly 9.6 trillion VND, respectively.
