Vietnam to host fifth Asia-Pacific bonsai festival

Vietnam will host the fifth Asia- Pacific bonsai festival in 2015, marking its first ever organisation of the event, heard a press conference in Ho Chi Minh City on November 4.
Vietnam will host the fifth Asia- Pacific bonsai festival in 2015,marking its first ever organisation of the event, heard a pressconference in Ho Chi Minh City on November 4.

The festival isscheduled for June 5-8, 2015 at the RinRin Park in Xuan Thoi Dongcommune, Hoc Mon district, Ho Chi Minh City.

It is expected towelcome craftsmen from 12 countries and territories, includingIndonesia, Malaysia, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, Taiwan (China),Singapore, the Philippines and Vietnam, which are members of the Asia-Pacific Bonsai Friendship Federation (ABFF).

Vietnamesecraftsmen from 24 provinces and cities will introduce their masterpiecesto the festival, said Head of the Organising Board Tran Viet My, who isalso Vice Chairman of the HCM City Ornamental Plants and CreaturesAssociation.

Craftsmen’s skill performance will be thehighlight of the festival, which is to see 400-500 bonsai treesparticipating in a competition and 300-400 work arts made from stone,wood and other materials on display.

Visits to bonsai gardensand source material producing areas in Ho Chi Minh City and southwesternprovinces will be organised for foreign delegates.

Thebiennial Asia-Pacific bonsai festival is held rotationally among theABFF’s member countries to promote and popularise the bonsai art in theregion.-VNA

Traditional Vietnamese martial art to be taught in Venezuela

Venezuelan Sports Minister Franklin Cardillo on May 7 expressed his desire to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in the field of sports, particularly by introducing Vovinam, the Vietnamese traditional martial arts, into official training programmes in Venezuela, thereby making it the first country in Latin America to have a Vovinam martial arts school.
