Vietnam to work with Philippines for APEC 2015 success

Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son has assured Philippine Ambassador to Vietnam Jerril G. Santos that Vietnam will continue working closely with the Philippines to ensure a successful APEC Year 2015.

Son made the statement at a meeting in Hanoi on July 22 with theambassador who handed over a letter from Philippine President BenignoAquino III inviting President Truong Tan Sang to attend the Asia-PacificEconomic Cooperation Forum (APEC) Leaders’ Week in the Philippinesin this November.

Son lauded the topic as well aspriorities proposed by the Philippines for the event this year whileinforming Santos of Vietnam’s preparations for the APEC Year 2017,including the formation of a National Committee for the APEC 2017Organisation.

The Deputy FM expressed his hope thatVietnam and the Philippines will strengthen cooperation in areas ofshared concern, asking for shared experience and support from thePhilippines to Vietnam in hosting the APEC.

During the meeting, the two sides also discussed a number of issues ofbilateral cooperation, including the establishment of a strategicpartnership in the near future.-VNA

Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung described the visits as particularly important and historic, taking place at a meaningful moment as Vietnam and India mark the 10th anniversary of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and just one month after the top leader of Vietnam assumed his new position.
