Vietnam top legislator meets with Fidel Castro

Visiting National Assembly Chairman of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong was received by first Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee Fidel Castro at his residential palace in Havana on September 6.

Trong conveyed the Vietnamese leaders’ greetings and best wishes to Fidel and showed his happiness to see the Cuban leader in a good health.

He briefed his host on the recent situation in Vietnam and activities Vietnam has conducted to celebrate the 50 th anniversary of its diplomatic ties with Cuba and confirmed the Vietnamese Party, State and people’s consistent solidarity with Cuba .

The Cuban leader recalled his visits to Vietnam , especially the visit to the central Quang Tri province in 1973 when the war was still there, unforgettable memories about the late President Ho Chi Minh and other leaders and his meetings with the Vietnamese people.

Fidel wished the Vietnamese people greater achievements in the course of making the country more prosperous under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

He presented a copy of his newly-published book “strategic victory” about the Cuban people’s revolutionary struggle with his signature to the Vietnamese guest and asked him to bring the other to Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh as his gift to him.

During the visit, NA Chairman Trong granted interviews to the Cuban press in which he said he was happy revisiting Cuba where he enjoyed solidarity and fraternal friendship and witnessed the Cuban’s concerted efforts and achievements in socio-economic development and in raising their country’s role and position in the region and world arena.

He reaffirmed that his visit is aimed at further deepening the two countries’ faithful and pure traditional friendship in the new circumstance.

Trong expressed his hopes that both Vietnam and Cuba will teach young generations about their revolutions and traditional friendship for maintaining, fostering and preserving it, which as Fidel used to say “For Vietnam, Cuba is ready to shed its blood”./.
