Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have affirmed their shared priority of strengthening practical and effective defence cooperation during a series of high-level meetings held on the sidelines of the Dubai Airshow 2025.

As part of his working visit and participation in the Dubai Airshow and the 2025 Dubai International Air Chiefs’ Conference (DIACC), Deputy Minister of National Defence Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien met with Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Defence Lieutenant General Ibrahim Nasser Al-Alawi. At the meeting, Al-Alawi expressed thanks to Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defence for sending a delegation to attend the Dubai Airshow and the DIACC. He stressed that the events offered opportunities for the two sides to exchange views and promote defence cooperation.

Chien congratulated the UAE on the successful organisation of the Dubai Airshow 2025 and the DIACC, saying the events once again underscored the UAE’s position as a leading aviation and defence-industry hub in the region and globally, backed by its strategic vision, professional organisation and strong international reputation.

Both sides acknowledged the positive progress made in bilateral defence cooperation in recent years, particularly in the exchange of delegations at various levels, the active participation in each other’s defence exhibitions, and collaboration through conferences and workshops.

Chien proposed that the two ministries enhance defence consultations and consider launching a deputy minister-level defence policy dialogue. He also suggested accelerating the signing of a memorandum of understanding on defence industry cooperation, and expanding collaboration between Vietnam’s General Department of Defence Industry and Viettel Group with major defence-industry corporations of the UAE. He requested the UAE Ministry of Defence to hasten the establishment of a Vietnamese Defence Attaché Office in the UAE.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese official invited Al-Alawi and the UAE Minister of State for Defence to visit Vietnam and attend the third Vietnam International Defence Expo, scheduled for late 2026 in Hanoi.

Al-Alawi welcomed the proposals and affirmed that the UAE would actively work to materialise the areas of cooperation discussed.

Earlier, Chien paid a courtesy call on UAE Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum./.
