Vietnam-China joint land border committee meets

The second session of the Vietnam-China Land Border Joint Committee was convened from Feb. 24-27 in the capital city of Hanoi .

The second session of the Vietnam-China Land Border Joint Committee wasconvened from Feb. 24-27 in the capital city of Hanoi .

The committee hailed the close cooperation between relevantministries, branches and border localities of the two countries inimplementing the Protocol on Border Demarcation and Marker Placement,the Agreement on Border Management Regulations, the Agreement on BorderGates and Border Gate Management as well as the committee’s decisions.

Delegates at the meeting discussed an orientationfor future border management and reached consensus on important issues,including urgent completion of necessary procedures to open the bridgeborder gate No. 2 of the Lao Cai-Hekou international border gate, andupgrading and opening a number of pairs of border gates.

They agreed to accelerate the establishment of a border gatecommunication mechanism between the two countries and the negotiationfor the agreement to facilitate free travel of ships at the mouth of BacLuan river and the agreement on tourism development cooperation at BanGioc waterfalls while closely coordinating in maintaining and protectingborder security and fighting illegal immigration, human trafficking,drug smuggling and transnational crime.

The twosides will also increase information and education work for peopleliving in border areas to raise their awareness of the common borderline.

The meeting took place in a friendly andstraightforward atmosphere, contributing to building the Vietnam-Chinaland border line into a border of peace, friendship, cooperation anddevelopment.

The committee’s third session is scheduled to be organised in Beijing in the fourth quarter of this year.-VNA
