Admiral Nguyen Van Hien, Deputy Minister of Defence and Vietnam People’sNavy Commander hosted a reception for the visiting Secretary of theNavy of the United States Ray Mabus on April 9 in Hanoi.
At the reception, the admiral underscored the growing cooperationbetween the two nations in defence over recent years, particularlybetween their navies.
Their collaborative workhas been strengthened by many exchange visits between the two navalforces and regular visits of US ships to Vietnam. Both sides have learntabout each other’s strengths and capacity in the process, he said.
Hien affirmed that the ongoing visit of his US counterpart hasstrengthened the relations between the two defence ministries as well asthe naval forces.
For his part, Ray Mabus expressedhis hope for both sides to engage in more effective and practicalcooperation, particularly in the fields of training, search and rescueand maritime security and safety. He said this would further developVietnam-US relations.-VNA
