London (VNA) - The Vietnamese community in the UK has raised nearly 9,000 GBP (about 11,833 USD) to support residents in central and northern Vietnam who have been affected by recent storms and floods, in response to a call from the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee.
The fundraising campaign was launched during the first London Open Pickleball Championship, a vibrant community sports event that fostered a strong sense of solidarity and humanitarian spirit among overseas Vietnamese. The event drew the broad participation of the Vietnamese community in London and Meritorious Artist, comedian Quang Thang, who donated his cash prize for winning the mixed doubles category to help flood victims in the home country.
Speaking at the event, Le Thi My Le, Chairwoman of the Vietnamese Association in the UK (VAUK), said the initiative was not only about providing material assistance but also about strengthening community bonds and promoting the nation’s long-standing tradition of solidarity and compassion.
She added that Vietnamese associations, businesses, and expatriates in the UK continue to serve as an important bridge linking the two countries and connecting overseas Vietnamese with their homeland.
Earlier, in early October, the Embassy of Vietnam and other Vietnamese representative offices in the UK also organised a fundraising programme to support victims of Typhoon No. 10 in Vietnam, reflecting the same spirit of solidarity and shared responsibility in helping compatriots at home overcome difficulties and and stabilise their lives./.
