Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnamese enterprises currently operate six active projects in Cuba, significantly supporting the Latin American country in self-supplying essential goods to its citizens, said Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi.
He revealed the information at a July 25 meeting with Esteban Lazo Hernandez, Politburo member, President of the National Assembly of People's Power, and President of the Council of State of Cuba, who is in Hanoi to mourn General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
He underlined the strong brotherhood between the two nations as well as the importance of the special traditional friendship and solidarity between the Parties, States, and people of Cuba and Vietnam.
He expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the General Secretary, saying it is a significant loss to both nations. He recalled the famous words of Cuban leader Fidel Castro, "For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to shed its blood," as a guiding principle for the enduring and pure relationship between the two nations, spanning past, present, and future. The special traditional relationship between Vietnam and Cuba has been continually strengthened in all areas.
He affirmed his commitment to supporting Vietnamese and Cuban businesses in overcoming challenges and finding practical solutions. The Cuban National Assembly is currently considering new policies to stabilise foreign enterprises in Cuba, and create a safe and favourable business environment for them.
For his part, Minister Nghi confirmed that the traditional special friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba have been continuously consolidated and strengthened through various channels, including the Party, State and people-to-people exchanges. Vietnam places a great importance on deepening this relationship with Cuba and fully supports its revolutionary cause.
In recent years, the Ministry of Construction has supported Vietnamese businesses in exploring investment opportunities and signing cooperation agreements in Cuba. It has also assisted Cuban companies in seeking investment opportunities in Vietnam, he stated.
The six Vietnamese projects in Cuba cover sectors such as building materials production, detergent production, diapers, solar energy, and animal feed, he said, adding these projects have helped Cuba partially self-supply essential goods for its people and provided stable employment for many Cuban residents./.
