Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese Minister of Public SecurityGen. To Lam hosted a reception in Hanoi on March 17 for Lao Deputy Minister ofPublic Security Sen. Lieut. Gen Kongthong Phongvichit.

Earlier, Phongvichit co-chaired the 13th Vietnam-Laossecurity cooperation conference in the central city of Da Nang on March 15.

Lam hailed the successful organisation of the conference with thesigning of the minutes that covered new cooperation areas such as fightingcyber crime, wrongful and distorted allegations on social media, and State managementon foreign non-governmental organisations that violate national security of thetwo countries.

Vietnam has consistently maintained specialfriendship with Laos, and stays ready to help Laos overcome currentdifficulties, continue with socio-economic development, diversify andmultilateralise foreign relations to improve its position and role within ASEAN,he said, adding that Vietnam is willing to help Laos ensure its security andorder during its ASEAN Chairmanship Year 2024.

Lam stressed that the Vietnamese Ministry ofPublic Security wants to work with the Lao counterpart to maintain independence,self-reliance, political stability and relationships with other countries; prevent external forces fromtaking advantage of one country to harm the security and stability of the other as well as ties between the two nations.

He wished that Laos will help Vietnam addressissues related to strategic interests.

The host asked the two countries’ publicsecurity forces to maintain their traditional and close relations on the basisof high political trust and mutual respect.

The minister believed that they will fulfilltasks assigned by the two ministries on the back of great bilateral friendship andspecial solidarity.

Phongvichit, for his part, wished that both sides would maintainregular meetings between public security forces in localities sharing the border.

He vowed to consistently prevent hostile andreactionary forces from taking advantage of one country to undermine politicalstability and social security and order of the other, as well as harm the bilateral relationship./.

NA leader hosts Belgian King in Hanoi

To further strengthen Vietnam-Belgium relations, especially parliamentary cooperation, both sides agreed to enhance delegation exchanges at all levels, particularly between parliamentary committees and friendship groups. They also pledged to share legislative and supervisory experience, coordinate positions in international organisations, support each other’s candidacies for UN bodies, and effectively implement the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).
