Hong Kong (VNA) – Nineteen Vietnamese enterprises are attending Asia’s premier fresh fruit and vegetable trade show - Asia Fruit Logistica, which is underway in Hong Kong (China) from September 4-6.

The event is the only specialised exhibition in Asia, focusing on fresh fruits, vegetables, agricultural products and industry-related value chains across the region. This year, it attracted 750 exhibitors from 20 countries and regions.

Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vinafruit) said that the participation of Vietnamese fresh produce businesses in the fair is within the framework of the national trade promotion programme 2024 chaired by Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Their presence at the trade show is hoped to promote Vietnamese fruit and vegetable product brands, thus increasing the export of Vietnam's key fruit and vegetable products to countries around the world, especially those in the Northeast Asia region.

He said that Vietnamese businesses have brought to the show the country's widely-known fruits such as durian, dragon fruit, mango, grapefruit, and coconut. This year, many businesses pay special attention to coconut.

Nguyen noted that Hong Kong is the gateway for Vietnamese fruits and vegetables to enter the Chinese market and the Northeast Asia region. In 2023, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports reached 5.6 billion USD, with exports to Northeast Asia alone accounting for 80% of the export turnover.

Vietnamese enterprises have been eyeing Northeast Asia as the market has a large population with high incomes. Recently, during the State visit to China of Party General Secretary and President To Lam, Vietnam signed a protocol on exporting fresh coconuts and frozen durians to China.

Le Hoang Phuong Yen, Director of Pico AgriViet Import-Export Company Limited, said that participating in this fair will help businesses find potential customers, thereby entering the Chinese market and many other demanding markets./.
