Vietnam’s writer and translator Hoang Thuy Toan, Director of the East-West Culture-Language Centre of Vietnam, has been pinned up with the Order of Friendship by Russian President D. Medvedev.

Toan, who is an honorary member of the Russian Writers’ Association, was one of 12 foreigners awarded with Russia ’s high distinctions on the occasion of the country’s Day of Nation Unity for their contributions to developing friendship and cooperation in culture with Russia.

At the awarding ceremony in Kremlin on Nov. 4, President D. Medvedev praised the great contributions by foreign cultural activists to popularising the Russian language and culture to the world. He said researchers of Russian language and culture are carrying out a great task of uniting countries, nations and cultures.

Writer Toan said the award was the Russian State’s recognition of the efforts exerted by generations of Vietnamese translators to introduce the Russian language, literature and culture in Vietnam.

On the occasion, Toan presented the Russian President a Vietnamese copy of “Tale of Igor’s Campaign” he translated and published in 1987. The book has been re-printed this year./.
