Vietnam’s active participation in APEC-22 reviewed

The country’s proposal emphasising the need to maintain peace andstability for economic recovery, cooperation and development wasapplauded, Son said.

Other ideas tabled relating tolinking economic reform, growth and connectivity with sustainabledevelopment, Post-2015 Development Agenda as well as responses to globalchallenges, like food safety, water resource security, naturaldisaster, search and rescue, were acknowledged.

Thecountry highlighted win-win cooperation, asking for the consideration ofvarious developmental levels and support for capacity building,especially in economics and trade, said Son.

It madesuggestions on strengthening education and training cooperation,public-private partnership and affiliation in science-technologyapplication among APEC economies and promoting sub-regional links.

Vietnam also underscored cooperation potentials and developmentpriorities of ASEAN and Vietnam as well as the role that ASEAN playsin initiating ideas and promoting connectivity and links among APEC andin the Asia-Pacific region.

Many member economiesand businesses pledged to continue supporting Vietnam inimplementing its priorities in economic reform and global integrationfocusing on infrastructure development, capital, technology and capacityupgrade, said the Deputy Foreign Minister.

He alsomentioned important agreements that Vietnam reached during PresidentTruong Tan Sang’s bilateral meetings with APEC leaders on the sidelinesof the summit, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, and thePresidents of Indonesia, the US, the Philippines, Chile, Peru, Russia,the Republic of Korea, Brunei, Japan, Thailand, Papua New Guinea, andNew Zealand.

APEC economies hailed Vietnam ’seffective international integration in all fields as contributing to themaintenance of peace, stability and the promotion of dialogue andregional connectivity.

They affirmed to continueworking closely and share experience with Vietnam when the countryworks as a coordinator between ASEAN and APEC in 2015 and hosts the APECVietnam Year in 2017.

This year’s APEC summitmarked 25 years of formation and development of the forum and 20 yearsof realising the Bogor Goals on trade and investment liberisation andfacilitation, said Son.

It took place in a contextwhen economic recovery was unsustainable and slower than forecast,Doha negotiation was sluggish, while peace and stability in manyregions faced obstacles, and global challenges became fiercer, he said.

The event passed two declarations and four otherdocuments detailing major orientations for connectivity, and theestablishment of a number of cooperation mechanisms.

A master plan on APEC Connectivity for 2015-2025 was ratified,specifying measures to foster overall connections with long-termvisions, especially in infrastructure connections, fueling the formationof a huge single market and space for regional growth.

The participants agreed on a blueprint on APEC contributions to thecreation of an Asia-Pacific free trade area, and an agreement oninnovative development, Economic Reform and Growth.

Representing about 40 percent of the world population and contributing55 percent to global GDP and 44 percent to world trade, APEC is bringingpractical interest to member economies as well as regional residents,Son emphasised.

The summit continued affirming theorganisation’s significant role and it potential in forging partnershipfor the Asia-Pacific region of peace, stability, connectivity andprosperity, Son stressed.-VNA
