A delegation from the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) attended the 8th congress of the Workers’ Party of Bangladesh, which took place in the capital city of Dhaka from Nov. 14-18.

The Vietnamese delegation, headed by Deputy Chairman of the CPV Central Committee’s Inspection Commission Le Hong Liem, delivered a welcome speech and conveyed a message of congratulations from the CPVCC to the congress, which was also attended by more than 600 local and international delegates.

The congress elected a 58-member central committee and a 15-strong political bureau. Rashed Khan Menon was re-elected president and Anisur Rahman Mallick was elected general secretary of the party.

At a reception for his Vietnamese guests, the party’s president Menon spoke highly of the CPV’s role, prestige and leadership experience, considering Vietnam’s renewal achievements as a great source of encouragement to the struggle for peace, national independence, democracy and social progress by peoples across the globe.

He expressed his wish to strengthen solidarity, friendship and cooperation between the two parties in particular and the people of Bangladesh and Vietnam in general.

While in Bangladesh, the Vietnamese delegates participated in a seminar entitled “The world economic recession and the working class” held by the Workers’ Party of Bangladesh, and took meetings with a number of international delegations./.
