VN, Sri Lanka strengthen defence cooperation

The Defence Ministries of Vietnam and Sri Lanka will strengthen cooperation through exchanging high-ranking delegations, language training and sharing experience in army building, mine and bomb clearance and the defence industry.

The twoministries reached the agreement during the talks between DeputyMinister of National Defence Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh and visitingSri Lankan Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, in Hanoi onSeptember 5.

During their talks, the two sidesdecided to entrust authorised agencies to study cooperative contentstowards the signing of a memorandum of understanding on bilateraldefence cooperation, helping to consolidate the friendship between thetwo armies and the two countries.

Vinh thanked theSri Lankan people for their wholehearted support for Vietnam in thestruggle for national independence in the past as well as during thecurrent national development.

He expressed hisbelief that the visit would open up new prospects for bilateral defencecooperation, helping boost the friendship and cooperation between thetwo armies and two peoples./.
