The Voice of Vietnam (VOV) opened a representative bureau in the United States on September 15, its seventh such bureau abroad.

Speaking on this occasion, Vu Van Hien, VOV General Director, said that the VOV currently runs six radio channels with about 240 hours of daily airtime broadcast in Vietnamese and 23 foreign languages and ethnic dialects for its audiences at home and overseas.

The VOV has so far established bilateral and multilateral relations with more than 40 international organizations and broadcasters in the world. At present, the VOV is an active member of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) and the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD). It is now holding the Presidency of the International Council of French-Speaking Radio and Television Stations (CIRTEF).

Starting with its representative offices in Bangkok , Thailand , and Paris , France , in 1998, VOV correspondents have now been present in Russia , China , Japan , Cairo and the US . The presence of VOV correspondents in this country will keep VOV audiences informed of latest developments in the United States , North America and America in general and contribute to the coverage of the big picture of the world as seen from VOV’s perspective.

Activities by correspondents of the VOV as well as other Vietnamese media agencies in the US will certainly contribute to increasing mutual understanding and cooperation between the media circles and peoples of the two countries," the VOV head affirmed.
Vietnamese Ambassador to the USA Le Cong Phung described the opening of the VOV representative bureau as an active and positive move by the Vietnamese Government in promoting the friendly and cooperative relations between Vietnam and the US . He said this event marked the great growth of the Vietnamese media as a whole.

The Ambassador confirmed that the US bureaux of Vietnam News Agency, Vietnam Television and the VOV have been making effective contributions to increasing mutual trust and understanding between the people of Vietnam and US./.
