Hanoi (VNA)
– The World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2017 convened in Davos, Switzerland, on January 17.

In his opening speech, Swiss President Doris Leuthard expressed her concern over increasing nationalism and protectionism in some parts of the world that are hindering the global connectivity and cooperation.

Chinese President Xi Jinping also delivered a remark at the session, in which he shared the view of his Swiss counterpart as saying protectionism means self-isolation. This is the first time the Chinese head of state has attended the conference.

The Vietnamese delegation, led by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, will attend the following session on January 18.

This year, the WEF event gathers 3,000 participants, including 50 State leaders, government officials from 70 countries worldwide, and representatives from international organisations, such as the United Nations and the World Trade Organisation.

Lasting through January 20, the meeting consists of 446 sessions, discussing the global matters, such as inclusive growth, the fourth industrial revolution, international cooperation models and immigration.-VNA
