Customs officials at Tan Son Nhat International Airport on April 24 arrested a Vietnamese woman boarding a HCM City to Sydney flight who was in possession of 1.83 kg of heroin.

Tan Son Nhat Customs said that the 32-year-old woman is from the Binh Thanh district of Ho Chi Minh City.

The heroin was found packed in seven nylon bags, covered with pepper and coffee and hidden in the lining of her suitcase.

The woman said she was on her way to visit her mother and her aunt in Australia and that she was asked to forward the suitcase to a friend of her mother in Australia .

She said she could only see sweets, dried shrimp and fish when opening the suitcase for checking.

On April 25, the case was handed over to Ho Chi Minh City ’s police drug squad for further investigation.

Earlier, on April 17, Tan Son Nhat Customs in coordination with the airport police caught a Vietnamese national travelling from the Philippines carrying a double-bottomed suitcase which contained 2.6 kg of synthetic drugs.

According to initial statistics, over the past month, customs officials and police officers have dealt with five cases of illegal drugs being transported totalling 21.53 kg.-VNA
