Jakarta (VNA) – The World Village Conference (WVC) 2016 was kicked off on May 23 in Purwakarta city in the Indonesian province of West Java.

The four-day event, the first of its kind in Indonesia, attracts diplomatic missions and 120 delegations from 25 countries and territories worldwide, including Australia, the US, Mexico, the Republic of Korea, China and Vietnam.

The Vietnamese delegation to the conference comprises representatives from the Vietnamese Embassy in the host country as well as experts from universities and social organisations.

It will attend a number of workshops, forums, exhibitions as well as cultural exchanges with the aim to popularise Vietnam’s image and people to international friends.

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Hoang Anh Tuan said there is a need to maintain village culture as globalisation and basic cultural values are the world’s concerns.

The ambassador said Vietnam considers that development and integration should be in line with respecting and preserving national identities.

The WVC is held to encourage the protection and development of ecosystems and village cultural values all over the world.-VNA
