Yen Bai (VNA) – The northwestern mountainous province of Yen Bai has set a clear goal to eradicate temporary and dilapidated housing by August 30, heard a local conference on January 21 reviewing the housing support programme for low-income households in 2023-2024 and launching the project to eliminate the above-said housing conditions for 2025.

In his remarks, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Tran Huy Tuan stressed that despite being a mountainous region with challenging economic conditions, Yen Bai always pays attention to a balanced approach to economic development and social progress, aiming to enhance the quality of life and people’s happiness.

He said the province has implemented numerous projects and policies to effectively combat poverty, ensuring that disadvantaged groups, including the poor and those with special circumstances, have equitable access to social services.

Currently, over 2,200 households, including those of war veterans, martyrs' families, and poor and near-poor individuals, live in makeshift, dilapidated homes.

Over the past two years, under the housing support programme for the poor and near-poor, the province successfully built and repaired 3,022 houses, achieving 100% of its set target. The total mobilised funds for this effort exceeded 369.2 billion VND (14.64 million USD), 2.5 times higher than the initial projected amount. In addition, Yen Bai supported the construction of 750 extra homes, with funds exceeding 97.4 billion VND.

By the end of 2024, the province’s poverty rate stood at 5.68%, ranking 6th out of 14 provinces in the northern midlands and mountainous region. This progress has played a key role in positioning Yen Bai as a leading model for rural development in the northwestern region./.
