One afternoon wandering through Hanoi’s Old Quarter, Cuong stopped at a modest sidewalk tea stall, faded walls, old lightbulbs, a simple teapot set. He suddenly realized these were more than everyday objects; they carried stories of time and people. From quick snapshots, Cuong created the model “Hanoi Sidewalk.” He said the conceptual stage is the most time-consuming part of the process. (Photo: Vietnam Pictorial)

Among his works, Cuong is most proud of the “Banh mi cart” model. More than a symbol of street food, it evokes the bustle of daily livelihood and the comforting flavors of old Hanoi. (Photo: Vietnam Pictorial)

Young man turns Hanoi street corners into vivid miniature models

What began as a chance introduction to architectural modeling has grown into a creative calling for Nguyen Van Cuong, a 2000-born native of Thanh Hoa. With skillful hands and a passion for craftsmanship, he transforms familiar corners of Hanoi into vibrant miniature scenes that capture the soul of Vietnam’s urban culture.
