10 kidney patients of medical incident discharged from hospital

Hanoi (VNA) – Ten kidney patients receiving free treatment at Bach MaiHospital Hanoi after a medical incident at Hoa Binh General Hospital have recoveredand were discharged from the hospital on June 8.

The patients will continue receiving outpatient treatment (periodical dialysis)three times per week at Bach Mai Hospital.

Seven patients died on May 29 with suspected anaphylactic shock while receivingtreatment at the General Hospital of Hoa Binh province. 

Once the deaths were reported, the provincial General Hospital turned off itsdialysis machines and transferred the living patients to Hoa Binh city’sGeneral Hospital and Hanoi-based Bach Mai hospital for emergency treatment.

One patient died on June 4, bringing the death toll to eight.

The professional council of the Hoa Binh Department of Health is working tomake an official conclusion on the cause of the incident.-VNA

Health sector targets free hospital fee for all

The total value of medical expenses not covered by the health insurance fund is estimated at around 24.8 trillion VND (942 million USD) per year. Health insurance contributions remain low, at 4.5% of the salary or reference base used for calculation.
