Hanoi (VNA) - A 5.7-magnitude earthquake rocked North Sulawesiprovince, central Indonesia, on September 9.

According to Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, thequake, which jolted at 14:18 pm (Indonesia time), was centered 27 km northeastof Melonguane sub-district in Talaud islands district with a depth of 10 km.

On September 8 morning, a 6.2-magnitude earthquake shook the area offshoreMaluku province, eastern Indonesia, but no tsunami alert was issued.

Indonesia has been frequently hit by earthquakes as it lies on a quake-pronezone in the Pacific "Ring of Fire."/.
