Geneva (VNA) – The Embassy of Vietnam to Switzerland on September 9 held a ceremony to celebrate the 75th National Day (September 2), featuring music performances about the fatherland and late President Ho Chi Minh.
In her opening remarks, Ambassador Le Linh Lan recalled Vietnam’s 75-year history since President Ho Chi Minh proclaimed the country’s independence in public in Hanoi’s Ba Dinh Square on September 2, 1945.
She said after nearly 35 years of Doi moi (renewal), Vietnam has made remarkable achievements in various areas, from economics, diplomacy, culture to security-defence, and relentlessly enhanced its reputation as an independent nation which has been active in global integration as well as a trustworthy partner and responsible member of international community.
Lan moved on to highlight the Vietnam-Switzerland relations since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1971, saying Vietnam attaches importance to strengthening the friendship and multi-faceted partnership with the European country.
She also highly spoke of the two sides’ cooperation outlooks in the light of talks on a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), which comprises Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, close to finalisation. The two nations will mark the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations next year, she added./.
