Hanoi (VNA) – Many activities celebrating Vietnamese traditional new year festival (Tet), which falls on February 16 this year, have been held among the Vietnamese community abroad.
A ceremony to pray for happiness, peace and prosperity was held at Buddha Vihara pagoda in New Delhi, India, on February 16 (the first day of the Lunar New Year), bringing together monks and nuns, and representatives from the Vietnamese Embassy in the country.
Venerable Thich Hanh Chanh, President of Representatives of Vietnamese monks and followers in India, read the New Year letter from Most Venerable Thich Pho Tue, Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS).
Participants chanted and prayed for peace, luckiness and happiness in the lunar New Year.
Previously, in his speech in the New Year’s Eve on February 15, Ambassador Ton Sinh Thanh wished all staff of the embassy, those working in agencies to the embassy and Vietnamese expats working and study in India a successful and happy New Year.
At a recent get-together to celebrate the Year of the Dog with Dutch friends and representatives from diplomatic agencies in the Netherlands, Vietnamese Ambassador to the European country Ngo Thi Hoa stressed 2017 witnessed the fruitful development of the Vietnam-Netherlands relations.
She thanked ministries, sectors, individuals and organisations of the Netherlands, as well as diplomatic delegations and international organisations in the country for their support for Vietnam in 2017.
She hoped Vietnam will continue receiving cooperation and assistance from its partners and friends, thus making greater achievements in the coming time.
On the occasion of the Tet festival, overseas Vietnamese in France shared their desires and plans to promote economic ties between the two nations in 2018.
President of the The Vietnamese Entrepreneurs Association in France (ABVietFrance) Nguyen Hai Nam affirmed the organisation continues serving as a bridge linking Vietnamese and French businessmen, towards attracting more investment from France to Vietnam and vice versa. - VNA
