- Party General Secretary To Lam on February 24 urged the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) to maintain unity, promote innovation, and rise to new heights, worthy of its role as the nation’s trusted information lifeline and a pillar of social confidence in the new era.
Visiting and extending Lunar New Year greetings to the agency’s officials, journalists, reporters and staff at its headquarters in Hanoi, the Party chief acknowledged their steadfast dedication. While families across the country were gathering for Tet, he noted, VNA journalists continued to ensure an uninterrupted flow of information, providing comprehensive coverage of domestic and international developments, as well as timely updates on policy adjustments by major powers. - Party General Secretary To Lam chaired a meeting of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat in Hanoi on February 24 to review a report on key issues in implementing the Secretariat’s Directive No. 55 on organising the Lunar New Year (Tet) celebrations, during which he urged the entire political system to immediately return to work at full pace without delay.
According to report presented at the meeting, following Directive 55, the Politburo, the Secretariat and the Government proactively issued early guidance on Tet preparations and maintained close oversight throughout implementation. Read full story
- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh paid a Lunar New Year (Tet) visit and held a working session with the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) and leading scientists and experts in the fields of social sciences and humanities in Hanoi on February 24.
PM Chinh extended New Year greetings and appreciated the contributions by generations of VASS scientists, affirming that their proposals will be carefully considered. Read full story
- National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man on February 24 held working sessions with NA committees to review major tasks for 2026, stressing decisive action, stronger supervision and accelerated digital transformation in the first year of implementing the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress.
At a meeting with the NA's Committee for Cultural and Social Affairs, the top legislator praised its comprehensive performance in 2025 and throughout the 15th NA tenure. With 22 full-time and 69 part-time members – the largest among NA committees – it has handled a heavy and wide-ranging workload. Read full story
- Ambassador Mai Phan Dung, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations, the World Trade Organisation, and other international organisations in Geneva, is leading a delegation to attend the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) where they will engage proactively in consultations on 36 draft resolutions and introduce two initiatives.
The initiatives are a joint statement on gender equality in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and a side event co-organised with the Republic of Korea, Japan, and Thailand on the human rights impacts of online fraud. Read full story
- Naval Ship 016 – Quang Trung of Brigade 162, Naval Region 4, left Cam Ranh Port on February 23 for Sydney to join the International Fleet Review commemorating the 125th anniversary of the Royal Australian Navy and the multilateral Kakadu naval exercise 2026.
The deployment aligns with the Party and State’s guidelines and directives of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defence on international integration and defence diplomacy. Participation in the fleet review and Exercise Kakadu 2026 is expected to strengthen coordination in addressing shared maritime security challenges, deepen mutual trust and understanding, and advance cooperation among participating navies in support of peace, stability and development in the region and beyond. - Major fuel distributors and domestic refineries are accelerating preparations to ensure sufficient supply, infrastructure and technical capacity for the nationwide sale of E10 biofuel starting June 1.
According to the Vietnam Biofuels Association, the country currently operates six fuel ethanol plants with a combined designed capacity of about 600,000 cubic metres per year, which would meet only around 40% of the estimated 1.5 million cubic metres needed annually for nationwide E10 production. The rollout is therefore predicted to significantly increase ethanol demand while domestic feedstock supply remains unstable. Read full story
- Lao Airlines, the national flag carrier of Laos, has announced it will resume direct flights linking the Lao capital of Vientiane with Vietnam’s central city of Da Nang from March 29.
The carrier said it will operate two flights per week on Thursdays and Sundays, using the Comac C909 aircraft configured with 90 economy-class seats. The flight time is estimated at about one hour and 20 minutes./. Read full story
