Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s eventsas reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- The National Assembly's Standing Committee reviewed the outcomes of the 15thNA’s second and third extraordinary meetings, during its ongoing 20th sessionin Hanoi on February 14 morning.

Speaking at the event, NA Secretary General and Chairman of the NA Office BuiVan Cuong said with a sense of urgency, seriousness, and responsibility, thelegislature completed all set agenda with important results during the twomeetings, including approving one law and three resolutions and deciding on thepersonnel work under their authority, laying an important foundation to fulfilltasks set for 2023 and subsequent years. - The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on February 13 gave the greenlight to the establishment or merger of some district- and communal-leveladministrative units in 10 provinces.

The approval was made at the onging 20th session of the Standing Committee. Read full story

- Minister Counsellor Nguyen Hoang Nguyen, deputy head of the PermanentDelegation of Vietnam to the United Nations (UN), on February 13 emphasised theimportance of putting the people at the centre of development policies,supporting vulnerable groups, promoting innovation in education and training,enhancing labourers’ capacity to self-learn and adapt to meet the requirementsof the new context.

Addressing the 61st session of the UN Commission for Social Development(CSocD61), held in New York from February 6-15, Nguyen affirmed that Vietnamsupports the policy of promoting decent work as well as socio-economicdevelopment and solidarity, considering it an important factor contributing toaccelerating the completion of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development. - Finance Minister Ho Duc Phoc had a working session with a delegation of theEU-ASEAN Business Council (EU-ABC) in Hanoi on February 14, during which heexpressed a hope that European businesses support and effectively invest ingreen economic development in Vietnam.

- Ambassador Pham Thi Kim Hoa said Vietnam always views Brazil as a major andimportant partner in South America at a recent meeting with officials of thehost country’s state of Goiás. Read full story

- The Cuban Association of Journalists (UPEC) presented the Felix Elmusa Medal– the highest honour of the organisation - to journalist and translator Vu VanAu, a former staff of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), in recognition of hiscontributions to the popularisation of information on Cuba’s social life andachievements across fields. - In 2023, the Coast Guard Region 4 High Command will step up communicationsamong fishermen in efforts to fight illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU)fishing.

Coast Guard Region 4 is responsible for managing and enforcing law on the watersfrom the northern bank of the Dinh An estuary in Tra Vinh province to Cape HaTien in Kien Giang province of the Mekong Delta. Read full story

- A special music show marking the 80th anniversary of the “Outline ofVietnamese Culture”, the first platform on culture launched by the CommunistParty of Vietnam, is scheduled to be held at Hanoi Opera House on February 28evening.

Themed “Outline of Vietnamese Culture – Historical imprints”, the 70-minuteevent will be directed by Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism TaQuang Dong and conducted by the Department of Performing Arts. Read full story

- The Japan National Tourism Organisation (JNTO) on February 14 released avideo clip promoting Japanese tourism with the participation of Nhi ThangFamily, including renowned Vietnamese singer Dong Nhi, businessman Ong CaoThang and their daughter Winnie.

Vietnam, Thailand to create new momentum for defence ties

Based on the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between Vietnam’s National Assembly and Thailand’s House of Representatives, signed in 2023, Vietnam and Thailand agreed to continue exchanges of delegations at all levels, expand interactions between parliamentary friendship groups, especially the Vietnam–Thailand Parliamentary Friendship Group, as well as among women and young parliamentarians, while maintaining close coordination at multilateral forums.

Vietnamese NA Chairman lauds legislative ties with Cambodia

Vietnamese, Cambodian PMs advance practical, results-oriented partnership during talks

The Vietnamese and Cambodian PMs agreed to keep shoring up the foundation of political trust and maintain close defence-security ties, pledging not to let hostile forces use either country’s territory to undermine or threaten the security and interests of the other. They vowed to enhance economic connectivity and joint work in culture, education and tourism.

Vietnamese Embassy in Israel urges citizens to enhance safety measures

The Vietnamese Embassy in Israel recommended that Vietnamese nationals regularly follow alerts and instructions issued by the Israeli Home Front Command; install and use the official Home Front Command warning application; and immediately move to a safe room or shelter when air raid sirens sound. They should avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from areas considered unsafe or at risk of unsafety.

ASEAN Secretary-General highlights Vietnam’s agenda-shaping role through ASEAN Future Forum

ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn described the forum as an important Vietnamese initiative aimed at advancing ASEAN diplomacy at both regional and global levels. Vietnam’s decision to host the event for a third consecutive year in 2026, following the success of the 2024 and 2025 editions, demonstrates its strong commitment to ASEAN Community building as well as efforts to enhance the bloc’s international standing.

Hanoi promotes ASEAN urban cooperation toward smart, sustainable development

Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Vu Dai Thang emphasised that the presence of delegates at the event reflects ASEAN’s spirit of solidarity, cooperation, and shared aspiration to build sustainable, prosperous, and people-centred cities. He noted that ASEAN is among the world’s most dynamic regions, where rapid urbanisation has turned cities into key hubs of economic growth, innovation, and regional connectivity.

New mindset, vision necessary in marine development: Top leader

The sea should not be viewed solely as an area for resource exploitation or sectoral economic development. It must be recognised as a strategic national development space where economic growth, national defence, security, science and technology, and international integration converge, said Party General Secretary and State President To Lam.
