- The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam held its preparatory session at the National Convention Centre in Hanoi on January 19 morning.
Before the preparatory session, delegates to the congress paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his Mausoleum. Afterwards, members of the Politburo, the Secretariat, and heads of delegations from Party committees directly under the Party Central Committee laid wreaths and offered incense at the Monument to Heroes and Martyrs on Bac Son street.
The congress observed a minute of silence in commemoration of late Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and members of the 13th Party Central Committee who passed away during the 13th congress term. Read full story
- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang on January 19 met with a delegation of foreign journalists from newspapers of communist parties, political parties holding important positions in their countries, media outlets of the overseas Vietnamese community, and international news agencies who have come to Vietnam to cover the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV).
Welcoming and thanking the journalists for coming to Vietnam on this occasion, Hang emphasised that the 14th Congress holds special historical significance, marking a major turning point in the country’s development, as it not only reviews and assesses the achievements of 40 years of Doi moi (Renewal), but also defines goals, vision, and major policy decisions to lead Vietnam into a new era of development. - The collection of public opinions on the draft documents to be submitted to the 14th National Party Congress was carried out in a spirit of promoting democracy and respecting the people’s views, mobilising the collective intellect of the Party, the people, and the armed forces, so as to ensure that they truly reflect the aspirations, wishes, and proposals of the people, according to a Party official.
Pham Tat Thang, member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education, and Mass Mobilisation, and standing deputy head of the Central Steering Committee in charge of grasping the public situation and social opinion regarding party congresses at all levels, as well as the draft documents of the 14th National Party Congress, said that those documents not only review the five-year development journey and define the key directions, objectives, tasks, and solutions for the upcoming term, but also shape strategic thinking, vision, and development orientations for the country toward the middle of the 21st century. - Science, technology and innovation are expected to be defined by the 14th National Party Congress as the central pillars of a new growth model, underpinning Vietnam’s drive towards double-digit, sustainable growth while lifting productivity, growth quality and overall economic competitiveness, according to member of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung.
Talking with the press, Hung said the most significant achievement in recent years has not been a single technological success, but a fundamental shift in awareness, mindset and ways of doing. Vietnam has established a new framework in which science, technology, innovation and digital transformation are judged by outcomes, with socio-economic effectiveness as the core benchmark. - The Japan Coast Guard patrol vessel Akitsushima, led by Deputy Commander Rear Admiral Takahashi Toru, arrived at Tien Sa Port on January 19, beginning a five-day courtesy visit to the central coastal city of Da Nang. The delegation comprises 60 officers and crew members.

- The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has decided to extend night flight operations at six domestic airports, serving the people’s travel demand during the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday and the 2026 spring festival season.
Under the document sent to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), the night-flight operations will be implemented from February 1 to March 1. Read full story./.
