Phnom Penh (VNA) – Dr. Kin Phea, Director of the International Relations Institute under the Royal Academy of Cambodia (RAC), has spotlighted the vital role played by the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) for the country’s development, noting that the new era of Vietnam will be closely tied to the Party’s leadership.
In his presentation at a recent seminar hosted by the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia, Dr. Kin Phea described the 14th National Congress of the CPV as a historic and momentous event, saying that with three strategic breakthroughs and six key tasks set for the country’s new revolutionary period, the Congress is seen as a landmark ushering in a new era - the era of the nation’s rise.
From the perspective of a leading political analyst in Phnom Penh, he noted that since its founding in 1930, the CPV has played a crucial and indispensable role, leading the struggle for national independence, reunification, and the construction of socialism under the country’s most challenging conditions.
Vietnam’s ability to overcome that difficult period shows that the CPV’s leadership and organisational capacity are not just a historical legacy, but a driving force behind the continuous development and success of the Vietnamese revolution, he said.
One of the most notable features of the CPV, he noted, is its capacity for self-reform and adaptability, as demonstrated by the Party’s remarkable achievements in promoting economic transformation through the “Doi moi” (renewal) policy in 1986.
He said that this marked a historic turning point, not only transforming Vietnam’s economic system but also redefining governance perspectives and vision, helping Vietnam emerge from a war-torn and impoverished nation into a dynamic economy.
The RAC expert noted that Vietnam is entering a new historical phase, identified by the CPV leadership as the “new development era” or the “era of the nation’s rise.” He explained that this era is driven by two major national aspirations - becoming an upper middle-income country with a modern industrial base by 2030 through comprehensive and sustainable economic growth underpinned by digital transformation, innovation, and strategic infrastructure development; and a developed and high-income country by 2045.
The master plan places special emphasis on establishing a multi-sector economic corridor to propel Vietnam into the world’s top 30 economies, he said.
Dr. Kin Phea emphasised that realising these national ambitions requires Vietnam to modernise its institutions, strengthen governance, and maintain political integrity, alongside a strong commitment to eliminating wasteful less, ensuring public trust amid global uncertainties.
Additionally, fostering social cohesion and balancing development with social equity are essential foundations for inclusive and sustainable development, he added.
The CPV stands at a crucial historical turning point, he said, expressing confidence that the 14th National Party Congress will mark a proud new chapter in Vietnam’s journey of progress./.
