Hanoi, (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- National Assembly deputies heard a proposal and an appraisal report on a proposal on investment policy for the National Target Programme on Cultural Development for the 2025 - 2035, period during their morning sitting of the 7th session of the 15th NA on June 3.

Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung stressed that the programme will be implemented nationwide and in some countries that have long-term cultural relationships and interactions with Vietnam, where a large number of Vietnamese people live, work, and study.Read full story

-The central province of Quang Binh held a ceremony in the presence of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Dong Hoi city on June 2 to celebrate its 420th founding anniversary (1604 - 2024), 75 years since the province’s uprising against French colonialists (July 15, 1949), and 35 years since its re-establishment (July 1, 1989).

In his speech, PM Chinh stressed the strategic location of Quang Binh, which was a land of talents, an important area during many feudal dynasties, the start of Vietnam’s territory expansion to the South, and witnessed many ups and downs in history. It was also a confluence of many cultures in the country.Read full story

- Inspector General of the Government Inspectorate Doan Hong Phong held talks with Khamphan Phommathat, President of the Lao State Inspection Authority, in Hanoi on June 3.

The Vietnamese official emphasised that the Lao official's working visit is a vivid demonstration of the good cooperation and friendship between the two inspectorate agencies in recent years, and also a valuable opportunity for the two sides to implement a memorandum of understanding on cooperation they signed in 2022, discuss and exchange experience and the best practices in directing and managing inspection, citizen reception, complaint.Read full story

- A working group from the Vietnamese Embassy in France led by Ambassador Dinh Toan Thang paid a working trip to Bordeaux, the capital city of France’s southwest region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, from May 30 to June 1.

During the visit, Ambassador Thang had meetings with Prefect of Nouvelle Aquitaine region Etienne Guyot and President of the region Alain Rousset, and attended a ceremony to mark the 20th anniversary of twinning relations between the region and Lao Cai province of Vietnam – a typical decentralised cooperation model of Vietnam and France.Read full story

-Total state budget collection in the first five months of 2024 was estimated to reach 898.4 trillion VND (35.2 billion USD), equivalent to 52.8% of the yearly estimate, representing a year-on-year rise of almost 15%, according to the Ministry of Finance (MoF).

Of the sum, collection from crude oil was about 24.7 trillion VND, equal to 53.6% of the estimate and equal to the figure in the same period last year, while domestic revenue was estimated at 757.5 trillion VND, equivalent to 52.4% of the estimate and up 16.8% year-on-year, the ministry reported.Read full story

- The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) announced on June 3 that the selling price of SJC-brand is 78.98 million VND (3,108 USD) per tael.

The selling price is determined based on SJC gold buying prices set by the SBV for four state-owned commercial banks of Vietnam and Saigon Gems and Gold One Member Co Ltd (SJC), it said, adding that it will continue to follow the roadmap to narrow the difference between the domestic price of SJC gold bars and the world price.Read full story

-More than 6 million Vietnamese children aged from 6-59 months across the country received free high-dose vitamin A pills on June 1-2.

This was part of the activities organised for the Vietnam Micronutrient Day (June 1), which aimed at reducing the rate of malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies in children in the country.Read full story

-Vietnam won the 11th ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympics after boxer Ha Thi Linh has been chosen as a representative at the Games this summer.
