-The United Nations (UN) Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix has highly evaluated Vietnam’s practical contributions to the organisation, including its peacekeeping activities, not only for what has been achieved but also for the potential to enhance cooperation between the two sides.

In an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency in New York following Party General Secretary and State President To Lam’s attendance at the UN Summit of the Future and the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79), Lacroix noted that Vietnam has deployed forces to UN peacekeeping missions, including a Level-2 field hospital in South Sudan and, more recently, an engineering unit to the UN mission in Abyei.Read full story

-State budget collection has so far reached 85% of this year's estimate, Deputy Minister of Finance Nguyen Duc Chi has reported.

-The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a 2 million USD grant to assist the Government of Vietnam in providing emergency and humanitarian services to residents affected by the super Typhoon Yagi in the northern region of the country.

“We highly commend the extraordinary efforts of the Government and people of Viet Nam in responding to the damage caused by Typhoon Yagi,” said ADB Country Director for Vietnam Shantanu Chakraborty. “ADB’s grant will support wider government efforts to deliver immediate humanitarian relief. ADB is also committed to working with the government on post-disaster recovery in the affected provinces to build back better and improve resilience, which is critical in the face of accelerating natural hazards,” ADB wrote in a statement.Read full story/.

Public resources must lead and activate private resources, while public investment should stimulate broader social investment.
