Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and State President To Lam had a meeting with US President Joe Biden on September 25 (New York time) as part of his US trip for the UN Summit of the Future and the high-level week of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA).

At the event, the Vietnamese leader expressed sincere gratitude to the US President for his heartfelt condolence message on the passing of Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong and thanked the US Government for its support for Vietnam’s Typhoon Yagi relief efforts. Read full story

- General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and State President To Lam, his spouse, and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam arrived at Jose Marti International Airport in Havana on September 25 evening (local time), beginning a state visit to Cuba.

The visit is made at the invitation of First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee (PCC) and President of Cuba Miguel Diaz Canel Bermudez and his spouse. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on September 26 attended a conference to announce the master plan of Binh Duong province in the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, during which he praised the southern locality’s efforts in creating a dynamic and efficient investment and business environment; a harmonious, humane, and sustainable society; and a proactive and transparent local administration.

Chinh noted that after nearly 30 years of formation and development, Binh Duong has made significant strides, transforming itself from an agricultural land into a modern high-tech industrial centre which has attracted thousands of foreign direct investment (FDI) projects, and created millions of jobs. - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet co-chaired the panel discussion “Adaptation, finance and resilience in relation to sea-level rise” with special envoy of the French President and Ambassador for the Poles and Maritime Issues Olivier Poivre d’Arvor in New York on September 25 (local time).

The event, held in the framework of the high-level week of UN General Assembly (UNGA) high-level plenary meeting on addressing the existential threats posed by sea-level rise, drew the participation of leaders and representatives from UN member states, particularly small island nations who have felt the disastrous impact of climate change, as well as those from international organisations and financial institutions. - The Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) is poised to pioneer researching 6G to help the country apply this technology at an early date.

- The air route between the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho and Phu Quoc island, a tourism hub off the southern province of Kien Giang, will be resumed from October 28.

Accordingly, there will be five round-trip flights per week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with Can Tho - Phu Quoc flights to depart at 10:40, while the Phu Quoc - Can Tho leg at 12:15, said the Southern Airport Authority. Read full story./.

Hanoi to host ASEAN Future Forum 2026 in mid-June

Vietnam asks parties to respect its sovereignty over Truong Sa

The spokesperson stated that the dispatch of personnel by relevant parties to features belonging to Truong Sa without Vietnam’s permission constitutes a violation of Vietnam’s sovereignty under international law. She stressed that such actions run counter to the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) as well as ongoing efforts by countries to negotiate a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).
