Algiers (VNA) - The Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria hosted a ceremony on September 25 to celebrate the 79th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2) and the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, with over 200 guests in attendance.

In his address, Vietnamese Ambassador Tran Quoc Khanh highlighted the significant achievements Vietnam has made over nearly eight decades. Today, the Southeast Asian nation is one of the world’s 40 most dynamic economies and a trustworthy destination for international investors. It maintains diplomatic relations with 193 countries, including strategic and comprehensive partnerships with 30 of them.

He said the close fraternal ties between Vietnam and Algeria have roots in their revolutionary history despite geographical distance. Cooperation between the two nations now continues to expand to fields such as pharmaceutical production, renewable energy, high-tech agriculture, and Halal-certified farm produce.

The diplomat affirmed that standing together in their past struggles for independence, the two sides are supporting each other in the current building and development of their nations.

On the occasion, the ambassador presented Algeria's Minister of War Veterans and Rights Holders Laid Rebiga the book "Vo Nguyen Giap - The People’s General", signed by the family of the Vietnamese general, who led the 56-day historic Dien Bien Phu campaign. Its victory on May 7, 1954 resulted in the signing of the Geneva Accords on ending the war and restoring peace in Indochina the same year.

Participants were treated to an exhibition of photos depicting the victory and the Vietnam-Algeria traditional relationship, as well as a Vietnamese street food programme offering the nation’s culinary delights.

The event not only commemorated Vietnam’s historical milestones but also provided an opportunity to strengthen the two countries’ cooperation and friendship, while bringing together the Vietnamese community living and working in Algeria./.
